Events: what I’ll be doing, when and where

November 2016…another resolution to update my website more frequently, and another book about to appear: one a year since 2012 and it’s a pretty full schedule to maintain.

Events planned for the next few weeks.

Friday December 2nd, 2pm at the Beacon Museum, Whitehaven. A wee party for the launch of the latest book ‘Fatal Reckoning’, which is the much-requested sequel to ‘Cruel Tide’. There’ll be the usual drinks and nibbles, some warm words about the books, a chance to buy some (book) Christmas presents, and – if the weather smiles – a stunning view of Whitehaven harbour, the town, the Solway firth and the Scottish coast. If you’d like to come, you’ll need a ticket to get into the Museum. Please email to get one.

Sunday Dec. 4th, 2pm at Gosforth library, West Cumbria. This is a really good way to support the library, now run by volunteers. I’ll be their special guest, talking about the new book. Everyone is welcome. Please let Judy know at

Tuesday December 6th, 1.30pm at Barrow-in-Furness library. I’ll be introducing the latest book to my readers in Barrow. Tea and a biscuits, and a chance to get a signed copy at a discount price.

Tuesday Dec. 13th at 7.30pm, North Lonsdale History Society, at Neville Street Methodist church Blackburn Room. Several of the local history societies in the area have been interested in the research and the stories underlying my books, which are all set in Cumbria.

Monday Jan 9th at 10am, Egremont library. Always a good turnout at Egremont, and an interest in my books. Come and join us.

Thursday Jan 12th at 6.30pm, Grange library

Thursday Jan 19th at 2pm, Millom library. A talk from me, discussion, a cup of tea and a chance to get a signed book from the author.

Wed. Jan 25th at 2pm Whitehaven library. Another library event. Thanks to Helen Towers and all the hard-pressed local librarians who organise these events for local authors like me. Much appreciated.

Wed Feb. 8th at 2pm, Ambleside library

Friday Feb 10th at 1.30pm, Ulverston library

  1. hello

If you really did got to Charlotte Mason, we may have been there together? I was there 1968 to 1971.

    1. I didn’t go to Charlotte Mason, Jessie did! I did my teacher training at Didsbury College of Ed. (as it was then) 1971-2.

  2. Hello Ruth,
I met you at the Beckermet WI and asked if you would speak at the Moresby WI. At the time you said that you would probably be around in the months of May and June. We meet in the church hall on the road off the A595 that leads up to Rosehill theatre. The dates are May 27th and June 24th. Your talk would be to start around 8pm for approximately one hour. I do hope you will be able to visit us.We have about 30 members attending. If a date is suitablour home addresse I will send the paperwork to your home address.
    Regards, Norma.

    1. Hello Norma
Sorry not to have replied earlier – been having some complications with my website. Of the two dates you mention, the best one for me will be Wednesday May 27th, so let’s go for that for Moresby WI. Could you do me a letter to that effect, just to keep my records straight. I don’t usually charge of a fee, if the WI are willing to let me sell my books at the event without the 10% charge they can make. It keeps things simpler than you you paying me and then me paying you. Could you ask your Committee to consider that?
